What makes natural stone a great option for my home?

Natural stones come in a wide variety of options which encompass everything from granite to marble, quartzite, travertine, onyx, and much more. Each and every stone is unique piece that is a 1 of 1 and each have own their individualized uses. For premier exclusivity, exotic natural stones provide looks unseen in regular markets, making for a once in a lifetime showpiece.

What is the most durable natural stone?

Quartzite is widely recognized as the most durable natural stone, even more so than granite. Granite ranks at a 6-6.5 on the moh’s hardness scale, while Quartzite is a 7-7.5. Although they are both extremely durable, quartzite has the upper edge in hardness and durability.

What is the difference between Quartzite and Quartz?

Quartzite is natural stone (metamorphic rock) formed over millions of years under immense heat and pressure (making it extremely durable and heat resistant!).

Quartz is a man-made, engineered stone composed of crushed quartz/sand mixed with pigments and resins baked in an industry oven. No sealing required, but also not heat resistant due to high resin composition.

What is the difference between Granite and Quartzite for a kitchen countertop?

Granite and Quartzite and both very durable options and commonly used for kitchen countertops. The main difference comes down to the style you are looking for.

Most, but not all granites have a rocky/speckled design such as the White Orion. Other exotic Granites have a unique veining pattern, such as the CopaCabana.

Quartzites on the other hand display the widest variety of colors and vein structures. From very busy and wild veining/colors like the Fusion Gold to a very calm and soothing design like the renowned Taj Mahal.

When you say hand picked selection, do you physically go to the quarries?

Yes! The Owners of Granite Expo personally fly across the world to various quarries to hand select all batches of our slabs! We take great pride in bringing the most exotic and exclusive stones.

Do I need to be a professional contractor to buy from Granite Expo?

No, we are open to the public and sell to homeowners, designers, contractors and builders.

What is a book match?

A bookmatch is a term used to describe slabs that have a mirrored movement resulting in a beautiful symmetrical pattern between the slabs. Having bookmatched slabs is crucial for a cohesive installation of waterfall islands, fireplaces, or any long counters requiring seams during installation. This ensures a beautiful continuation of vein structures in the slabs and no abrupt vein pattern changes.

Stone Care Questions

How do I protect my natural stone countertops from staining?

The number one and easiest way to protect your natural stone countertops is to apply sealer to prevent staining. Penetrating sealers fill the pores/micropores of stone creating a barrier and repellence of water and oils resulting in a protected stone countertop ready to be used just as its meant to be.

What can I use to clean my natural stone countertops?

There are many natural stone safe, pH neutral cleaners available on the market. You may also use regular soap and water if no cleaner is available with you. DO NOT USE harsh chemicals such as bleach, clorox wipes, or anything acidic as this will alter the finish and may etch most natural stones.
